On September 25th 1915, during the Battle of Loos, British forces launched a major attack on German positions. Among them was Kulbir Thapa, a 26-year-old Rifleman in the 2nd Battalion, Queen Alexandra's own Gurkha Rifles. Severely wounded while advancing deep into enemy lines, Kulbir's remarkable survival story unfolded behind enemy lines. His extraordinary bravery, self-sacrifice, and compassion earned him the first-ever Victoria Cross awarded to a Gurkha. More than a tale of heroism, his actions on that day brought British and German soldiers together, highlighting the unyielding spirit of the Gurkhas.
